Cilento National Park
The Cilento and Vallo di Diano National Park, the second largest park in Italy, extends from the Tyrrhenian coast to the foot of the Campania-Lucanian Apennines.
The extraordinary naturalistic emergencies, due to the considerable heterogeneity of the territory, are accompanied by the mythical and mysterious character of a land rich in history and culture: the call of the nymph Leucosia, to the beaches where Palinuro left Aeneas, from the remains of the Greek colonies of Elea and Paestum , to the splendid Certosa di Padula. And how much more you can find in a land yet to be discovered.
UNESCO World Heritage Site
Cilento, a land campana of rolling hills covered with olive trees that are reflected in the blue of the Tyrrhenian Sea, has always been a crossroads of peoples and traditions. Crossed by lively streams, rich in chestnut and holm oak woods, its splendid landscape is interrupted by villages clinging to the rocks or lying on the seashores.
And it is precisely here that the magnificent Cilento and Vallo di Diano National Park rises, with the archaeological sites of Paestum and Velia and the Certosa di Padula, included in 1998 in the World Heritage List by Unesco.
Blue Flag
In 2016, for the eighteenth year in a row, Castellabate was awarded the prestigious recognition of the blue flag for the high quality of its waters and beaches.
The Blue Flag is an international award, established in 1987 as the European Year of the Environment, which is awarded every year in 49 countries, with the support and participation of the two UN agencies: UNEP (Program of the United Nations for the environment) and UNWTO (World Tourism Organization) with which the FEE has signed a global partnership protocol and is recognized by UNESCO as a world leader in environmental education and education for sustainable development.
